Logo web biggest.JPG (51187 bytes) Dear Governor and Legislators,

As a citizen and tax-payer, I am appalled to learn that the State of California is engaged in logging a publically-owned State Forest for the benefit of private owners of forestland. I understand that the revenues generated by the logging of Jackson State Forest go to a special state fund that subsidizes forest practices of private timber owners, presumably including corporations. Even worse, the State of California is ILLEGALLY logging a publically-owned forest using an out-of-date forest management plan.

After paying millions and millions to purchase the Headwaters Forest, it is very ironic to think that California is logging its own State Forest in order to subsidize the forest practices of Maxxim, Sierra Pacific, and other timber companies!

Governor Davis and Legislators, you are fully aware that the California electorate treasures its Redwood Forests and indeed its public land. Now is the time to stop logging the Jackson State Forest and indeed, convert it to forever-protected status as a State Park.

Very Sincerely,

Mary Bernstein
